How should I select a nephrologist ?
Look for a Nephrologist who is board certified in nephrology and is involved in transplant nephrology and patient education.
When should I consider a nephrologist?
Your primary care physician may refer you to Naples Nephrology for treatment. If you do not have a primary care physician, you should consider contacting Naples Nephrology if you experience signs and/or symptoms that could be related to kidney disease, such as swelling in the legs, recurrent kidney stones or electrolyte problems. Very difficult to control hypertension is also managed by a nephrologist. If you are on dialysis or nearing end stage kidney disease and want to be considered for a kidney transplant, early referral is essential to avoid unwanted delays.
Why is early detection and aggressive intervention important?
We are proud to take the aggressive approach when appropriate. If your creatinine is rising, a biopsy may be recommended. This may be the only way to determine the etiology of the kidney disease. Once your creatinine is beyond a certain level, your disease may be too advanced for treatment. We welcome the challenging cases and aim to give the appropriate treatment in a timely fashion.
